Why was Brock Lesnar, the heel, being portrayed
as the underdog? Why was Undertaker, the aging veteran clutching to
the glory of his streak, getting the weekly upperhand over the “beast
incarnate?” What was going on with WWE’s booking?
As far as the Lesnar-Undertaker match went,
the “Road to WrestleMania” had been a perplexing one. Instead of pursuing the
easiest storyline imaginable–let Lesnar look like a monster
beforeUndertaker edges out a victory at WrestleMania 30–WWE booked
everything in reverse. Of course Undertaker’s undefeated streak was
going to remain intact, but why not give fans somereason to believe Lesnar would
win? Why make it so clear that Lesnar did not stand a chance?
The answer:
he did stand a chance. In the epitome of a shock finish, Brock Lesnar defeated The
Undertaker via an F5 to end The Deadman’s WrestleMania streak.
Undertaker would
not become 22-0 at Sunday’s WrestleMania 30. He instead becomes 21-1 and could
be done wrestling at the annual “showcase of the immortals.”
The crowd gave Undertaker a
gracious ovation as he worked his way to the back.
